First-Time Setup with My Help
When I hand over the dashboard to you, I will personally assist you on a live call to connect it to your local Excel file for the first time.
You don’t need to do this yourself—just follow my lead on the call.
But after that, you must follow the important rules below to avoid breaking the connection.
⚠️ What You Need to Know:
Once we connect your Excel file during our session:
🚫 Do not move the file to another folder.
🚫 Do not change the Excel file name.
🚫 Do not rename or delete the sheet inside the Excel file.
🚫 Do not change any column names, remove columns, or add new columns.
Why?
The dashboard is linked to your Excel file's exact location and structure. Any changes after setup will cause the report to break or throw errors.
✅ Your Only Responsibility After Our Call:
Keep the file and its structure exactly as it is.
Only update the data inside the Excel file (i.e., add new rows).
💡 Good to know:
You don’t need to touch Power BI again after this.
The dashboard will auto-refresh when you upload the PBIX to Power BI Service.
👉 Reminder: I will fully handle this connection process during our call, so you don’t need to worry about setting it up on your own!
FAQs – Connecting Your Local Excel File
Q1: What if I accidentally move the file to a different folder?
➡ Power BI won’t be able to find the file, and you’ll see an error.
Q2: What if I rename the Excel file?
➡ Power BI will break the connection since it’s looking for the original file name. Please avoid renaming it.
Q3: Can I rename the sheet inside the Excel file?
➡ No, the dashboard depends on the original sheet name. Renaming it will break the link.
Q4: Can I add or remove columns in the Excel file?
➡ No, please don’t modify columns. Only update or add rows (data entries). The column headers and structure must remain exactly the same.
